Until recently, the town of Livingstone in Zambia played second fiddle to the town of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe due entirely to its distance from the falls themselves. Livingstone is about 10 km upstream, whereas its Zimbabwean counterpart couldn’t be closer to the falls. Recently the historical town has been cashing in on the diverted tourist dollar and without raising a sweat has exploded from a shabby trading town with budget accommodation into a shabby trading town with upmarket accommodation.
