This is one of the best bases to experience the beauty of Botswana from. Some of the best minds in the safari industry came together to create what they saw as “the perfect safari camp” – and so Zarafa Camp was born. It’s fitting that the name means “the beloved one” or “the lovely one” in Arabic.

Situated in the Selinda Reserve that stretches on for 320,000 acres, the award-winning camp is designed to be as green and good to the earth as possible. The camp’s prime position on an island in the floodplains of the Zibadianja Lagoon, the source of the Savute Channel, ensures you’ll see plenty wildlife.

You’ll sleep in one of the four immense tented suites, raised up on a wooden deck made form recycled African railroad sleepers, beneath a canopy of African ebony and red ivory trees. Wake up to uninterrupted views of the surrounding wilderness. The roomy ‘marquis style’ canvas tents are the stars of the show, with furniture handcrafted from recycled ancient hardwoods. The tents are open-air so the wild is never too far away.

On 4X4 game drives, guided bush walks or boat trips, you’re likely to bump into prides of lion, huge herds of elephant and packs of wild dog. Look out for roan, zebra and even the odd aardwolf and civet. Each tent has a professional camera and lenses for you to use.

To round off the luxurious experience, there are in-room massages, a plunge pool, an open-air gym available and meals served outdoors, to suit whatever your tastes may be.
